Back Pain Solutions Without Tears - Surgery Not Required!

Hello and welcome. In this article we will be discussing back pain solutions and how you can get them without tears, and definitely without the use of surgery.

Back pain can occur due to a lot of conditions including, but by no means limited to, the following; a herniated disc (which is also know as a slipped disc, a ruptured disc, a bulging disc, or a protruded disc), a pinched nerve, an injury (for example an automobile accident), wrong posture (especially if you are always using the computer without proper back support), and so on and so forth.

Back ache is almost an unavoidable part of many people's lives but the great news is that back pain solutions also exist to help counteract their occurrence.

=> Number 1 - Exercise...

To prevent further damage to your back and relieve the current pain you feel, you should engage in strengthening exercise routines. You can perform these types of exercises by placing your hands on your hips, then leaning backward gently and gradually.

You should engage in this exercise routine for about 30 minutes and try to be consistent in performing them daily to relieve your back problem.

Another type of back pain solution you might want to try is Chiropractics...

=> Number 2 - Chiropractics...

This technique involves visiting with a chiropractor who will perform a spinal manipulation procedure on you to relieve your back ache via the use of specialized machines.

Not comfortable with Chiropractics, then you may prefer physical therapy...

=> Number 3 - Physical Therapy...

Physical therapy involves the use of special equipment to cure your back problems. These special equipments are used to provide you with much needed support as you perform certain exercise routines which the physical therapist will recommend.

These exercises may include the use of certain therapeutic balls for balancing your back muscles. Alternatively, you may decide to augment your diet with foods supplements that are proven to help with your pain...

=> Number 4 - Diet...

Incorporating food supplements that are known to provide back pain solution into your daily diet is a smart and simple, yet effective way to combat your malady.

These food supplements include; vitamin C, devil's claw, white willow bark and so on. They all contain natural, anti-inflammatory agents that help to increase bone and joint health.

Other ingredients that you should incorporate into your food include; garlic, capsaicin (that is, cayenne pepper), glucosamine-chondroitin, etcetera.

=> Number 5 - Acupuncture...

Very popular in the Eastern part of the world, acupuncture is one of the known back pain solutions that can be used to reduce back ache. It does this by causing your body to release neurochemicals which helps it to self heal.

FACT: Most conventional treatments for back pain only work as a temporary band aid solution; they all fail to work in the long run!

Back Pain Solutions Without Surgery

Acute back pain may begin suddenly and usually lasts around 3 months. Chronic back pain sometimes lasts throughout life.

The most common back pain is low back pain (LBP). It is is often described as sudden, sharp, persistent, or dull pain felt below the waist. LBP is very common and affects the majority of people at some point during their life. Up to 70%--85% of all people have back pain at some time in their lives. LBP is the most common cause of a limitation of activity in people younger than 45 years of age. It is the second most frequent reason for visits to a physician, and the third most common indication for surgery. It is the fifth-ranking cause of hospital admissions and is one of the leading causes of disability.

Low back pain is most commonly caused by muscle strain associated with heavy physical work, lifting or forceful movement, bending or twisting, awkward positions, or standing in one position too long. Any of these movements can exacerbate a prior or existing back disorder. Other conditions that can cause low back pain include spinal stenosis, arthritis (osteoarthritis), spinal infection (osteomyelitis), spinal tumors (benign and malignant), spondylolisthesis, and vertebral fractures (e.g. burst fracture).

Low back pain is either acute or chronic. Acute LBP may begin suddenly with intense pain usually lasting fewer than three months. Chronic pain is persistent long-term pain, sometimes lasting throughout life. Even chronic pain may present episodes of acute pain. Other symptoms include localized pain in a specific area of the low back, general aching, and/or pain that radiates into the low back, general aching, and/or pain that radiates into the low back, buttocks and leg(s). Sometimes pain is accompanied by neurological symptoms such as numbness, tingling, or weakness. Neurological symptoms requiring immediate medical attention include bowel or bladder dysfunction, groin or leg weakness or numbness, severe symptoms that do not subside after a few days, or pain prohibiting everyday activities.

Pain felt in the low back is not always indicative of a spinal problem. A thorough physical and neurological assessment may reveal the cause of the low back pain. The physical examination begins with the patient's current condition and medical history. Examination of a patient with low back pain involves examining the patient's range of spinal motion while standing straight, bending forward, and to the side. Asymmetry, posture, and leg length is noted. Methodical palpation of the spine can reveal muscle spasm, possible bony displacement, and tender points. Abdominal palpation is performed to determine if the cause of low back pain is possibly organ related (e.g. pancreas). The neurological assessment evaluates weakness, absence of reflexes, tingling, burning, pain, diminished function, and other signs that may indicate nerve involvement.

If infection, malignancy, fracture, or other risk factors are suspected, routine lab tests may be ordered. These tests may include complete blood count (CBC), erythrocyte sedimentation (ESR), and urinalysis. In some cases electrodiagnostic studies such as electromyography (EMG) or nerve condition velocity (NCV) are performed to confirm a diagnosis or localize the site of nerve injury. Plain radiographs (x-rays), CT Scan, and/or MRI studies are performed when fracture or neurological dysfunction is suspected. A MRI represents the gold standard in imaging today. A MRI renders high-resolution images of spinal tissues such as the spinal cord and intervertebral discs. X-rays are still the imaging methods of choice to study the bony elements in the low back. The results of the physical and neurological examinations combines with test results are carefully evaluated to confirm a diagnosis.

Most patients with low back pain are treated without surgery. A conventional treatment plan may include bed rest for a day or two combines with medication to reduce inflammation and pain. Medications recommended by the physician are based on the patient's medical condition, age, other drugs the patient currently takes, and safety. The first choice for pain relief is often nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs should be taken with food to prevent stomach upset and stomach bleeding. Muscle relaxants may provide relief from muscle spasm but are actually benign sedatives, which often cause drowsiness. Narcotic pain relievers are prescribed for use during the acute phase and often for chronic pain management in appropriate patients.

Other modalities to treat low back pain might include physical therapy (PT), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) trial, ultrasound therapy, acupuncture and massage therapy. A managed PT program can help build muscle strength and flexibility, improve mobility, coordination, stability and balance, and promote relaxation. Patients who participate in a structured physical therapy program often progress to wellness more rapidly than those who do not. This includes low back maintenance through a home exercise program developed for the patient by the physical therapist.

Although the number of spinal surgeries done every year is on the rise, it is rarely required to treat low back pain. Surgery may be considered if the patient is experiencing bowel or bladder dysfunction, increased nerve impairment, progressive weakness, incapacitating pain, or spinal instability. The surgical procedure depends on the diagnosis or the cause of low back pain. To prevent low back pain, first and foremost, follow the treatment plan outlined by the physician. To enhance recovery from an episode of low back pain, or to help prevent future exacerbation, try to maintain good posture, be consistent in a home exercise program, and eat sensibly to maintain proper body weight.

Sciatica surgery

sciatica surgery is the drastic treatment performed on the untold millions of patient s. who show symptoms of chronic and agonizing unilateral or bilateral sciatica. Lower back and leg pain has reached epidemic proportions, and while there are more treatments than ever, the very of the patient a few seconds to achieve real and lasting cures. In fact, not only are the most sciatica care options as ineffective, but surgical intervention demonstrate some of the worst possible outcomes, and also have a high risk of causing more damage than good.

sciatica surgery specialty is orthopaedic and neurological medicine sectors. There is a wide range of possible procedures used to address the issues of serious and long standing sciatic pain, depending on the source management. The vast majority of patient s, will be lower surgery spinal, because most sciatica complaints are traced back to a structural abnormalities in the regions of the spinal lumbar or l?d?wiowo. Several of the patient 's will undergo cervical spinal surgery, their pain is to put forward the theory, due to stenosis in the neck. Several of the patient s, will be subject to the exclusion of spinal efforts to soft tissue that is the source of the symptoms, such as for piriformis syndrome.

Herniated discs are the most common spinal anomalies, surgically treated in conjunction with the lower body sciatica. While it is possible herniated and bulging discs can actually source sciatica symptoms, actually quite rare. Statistics research indicates little or no correlation between incidence, lumbar herniations and sciatica pain conditions. In fact, clinical research clearly shows that the number of of the patient United's rather nasty looking herniated disks, which are on the unmatched Imaging diagnosis for unrelated conditions, at the same time, many of the seemingly minor problems are accused the drive every day to cause horrific and track the pain. Little sense. If you feel that really awful long-term therapeutic results excluding such as discectomy and spinal fusion is easy to see that the drive is probably not the cause of the pain, but only were wrongly identified as such. This the diagnosis mis is a huge part of iatrogenic error in the rampant care health and is especially huge load of back pain patients around the world.

sciatica surgery you can also treat innocent aspects of aging, including degenerative diseases of the spinal disc and spinal osteoarthritis. I have yet to see DDD, who was really responsible for sciatica, although the of the patient many s are diagnosed only verdict. This is amazing because the disk desiccation is well known medical in the normal, expected, and the public part of the process of aging. Evidence of the process is inherently painful ever reached the final of the lamp. Osteoarthritic changes lower spine is also par for the course and it is normal that people will suffer the typical contract, narrowing the channel central and osteophyte formation of common foraminal to osteoarthritis. I saw many of these cases are the real source of the pain, but this is still only maybe 5 to 10% of the management.

Of course, there are many other structural problems treated surgically, as well as when he accused complaints sciatic changes on diagnostic imaging of films. Some of these conditions, scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis, hyperlordosis, hypolordosis, retrolisthesis and anterolisthesis. In almost all cases of spinal fusion is used to fix the processes in place. All except the back of this specific procedure provides at least hope to solve the pain and in many cases, actually makes the symptomatic expression significantly worse. However, it is appropriate to say that in at least 10% of cases diagnosis, is correct the source of the pain, despite treatment, barbaric, unenlightened and almost giving the effect.

My tips for sciatica surgery is simple. Don't do unless medical emergency approved by at least 3 different surgeons. Not even think about it, unless all other options have been exhausted. Statistics are not on your page. After the damage has been done the same surgical procedure (and Yes, all the way to cause the greatest injury spinal block), may be the chance of ever being pain free again. At least do your own research and actual facts about sciatica surgery. If you like what you read, then by all means, you can still have the operation. However, when you go with him, is no "undo" what is committed against Your anatomy. Think carefully ...

The great Backfire on surgery of the back and the non-surgical spine decompression increase for back pain

Imagine having back pain for a year, five years, or even a decade, and finally getting so frustrated you opt to go for a surgery that the doctor assures you will get rid of your pain and allow you to regain a normal lifestyle again. This is the exact story that was reported on MSNBC just a short while ago. In the next few paragraphs we can briefly recap the story of Ms. Scatena, but before we do I am going to some something completely out of the ordinary for my monthly newsletter. I'm going to let the cat out of the bag and give you the punch line right off the bat.

Patients who opt to have back surgeries and spinal fusions are way less likely to go back to work and are in desperate need of more opiates. Now this is NOT my opinion. I'm going to take a neutral stance on this and just going to lay down the story, give a few references as to where these statistics are coming from, give you insight into what a majority of "celebrity" back surgeons and pain management doctors have to say about it, and leave it at that. So let's get started. The story starts in the town of Scottsdale Arizona in the blazing heat. There was a woman, in great physical shape except for excruciating back pain. She jumped from doctor to doctor and after thinking she was getting the best advice and doing her research she finally decided to opt for surgery. She suffers from spinal stenosis of the lumbar spine. For those of you that are wondering what spinal stenosis is, it is generally a narrowing of the canal through which the spinal nerves travel. It puts pressure on the nerves which in turn cause pain, and if you've been reading this monthly newsletter for any length of time, you're well aware that....

Pressure = Pain Pressure causes pain fibers to experience pain, causes rubbing, irritation, and then the insuring inflammation to compound the problem. So Nancy opted to try and alleviate the pain by going through a "spinal microsurgery procedure". Immediately following the surgery Nancy Scatena was concerned she may have made the wrong decision. Just a month after surgery her pain was back in full swing and more excruciating than ever. So there she sat with unrelenting back aches and pain and her doctor prescribing medication after medication. None of which did more for her than barely taking the edge off. And just like the 27 million other Americans that suffer back pain every year she sat (or actually tried to sit comfortably) wondering what her next move should be. So just like many of us, she turned to a friend that recommend she go see yet another surgeon who her friend referred to as...

A Miracle Worker This new miracle worker-as she was referred to-assured her that this second operation would fix everything. And she decided to go with her friends' recommendation and have the surgery. And for just a few weeks the pain was better. Then It Came Roaring Back On MSNBC they say that about 600,000 Americans opt for back surgeries of some sort. But they go on to say that many surgeons and pain management experts say that most, back surgery is full of empty promises. And here are the facts as to why. And these numbers are actually from a study done in Ohio. I'll take out all the "doctor-ese" of the story and just lay out the facts. They looked at just under 1500 patients in the workers compensation system, half of them had surgery, half of them did not. So here is how it breaks down.

26% of those that had surgery returned to work 67% of those that did not have surgery returned to work.

So if that isn't troubling enough, the real shocker is that those that did have surgery for their back pain had a...

41% Increase in Pain Medications! So what does that actually mean? Well the head researcher in the study was a doctor named Dr. Traung Nguyen who is a researcher from the University of Cincinnati. Medical Colleagues claim that this study is evidence that back surgeries don't alleviate pain from degenerative discs.

Why Would They Continue To Do Procedures That Studies Show Don't WORK?

You're completely on point if you're asking yourself that same question. After all, the study provides "clear evidence". Some sources say economics. Spinal surgery is a lucrative procedure. In the Spine Journal, they report an EIGHT fold increase in invasive procedures that fuse two or more vertebrae over the past 15 years. This the little know dirty little secret that has public health experts and surgeons up in arms about back surgery.

In fact, one of the leading experts is publicly stating back surgery and the legitimate need for spinal fusions has gotten "WAY BEYOND WHAT IS REASONABLE AND NECESSARY" Another interesting statistic is that there are some parts of the country where spinal fusions are FOUR times more likely than the national average. All this comes from Charles Burton who is THE medical director for the Center for Restorative Spine Surgery in St Paul.

Is He Alone? Nope. Not at all. Dr William Webb who is the chairman at the University of Pennsylvania and the Chief of Neurosurgery of Pennsylvania Hospital says that "there is some success in treating back pain but as a whole we are less successful at treating back pain." As if that isn't convincing enough that surgery for back pain is the last resort, if it even should be an option at all (surgery is only clinically indicated when muscles begin to atrophy or there is bladder or bowel incontinence, otherwise it is an elective procedure). Dr. Dorisk Cope, who is a professor and chair for pain management at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, admits that....

"It's a case of, if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail." So that brings us back to this month's newsletter message. The hammer and nail analogy refers to a "carpenter" trade. You wouldn't go to the carpenter and ask him to fix your plumbing. Why? That's not his specialty, in fact he probably doesn't know much, if anything about plumbing at all. Just like surgeons don't know much about Non-Surgical Methods. And we should be thankful about that. After all, if the surgeon was spending time to learn about Non-Surgical technologies and procedures then he is not getting better at surgery which is what we really want him to be good at right? The truth of the matter is that if someone has bowel or bladder incontinence, or muscle wasting or damage to the nerves, then more than likely they need to see a surgeon ASAP.

But Pain By Itself? Based off what many in the research, teaching, and neurosurgical circles are saying it just not as effective as the general population, portal of entry doctors, and the surgeons themselves would like to think. While I agree that for many there is no magic bullet, what I am saying is that if someone has a pressure "diagnosis', a herniated, bulging disc, a disc pressing on a nerve cause stenosis, sciatica or neuropathy, or they have a failed surgery, there may still be hope. If you have a compression problem, if you're suffering from pain, void of bladder, bowel or muscles wasting problems then maybe non-surgical spinal decompression is the answer.

His vision, he said, had become increasingly blurred. Because she also glaucoma, sees his doctor eye every six months. On the last visit, the doctor has noticed that the cataract had begun to deteriorate.

"You said, ' you'll let me know when you are ready for surgery ', and I said, ' I am, '" Norred invoked, with a chuckle. "When you cannot read scores soccer game on TV, you know that something is wrong."

He admitted being nervous until the surgery. "I am a retired registered nurse, but you still get nervous when is she," he said. During this procedure, you would be awake but numb. "The doctor said, ' you'll see lights and colors, but there's no feeling at all, '" Norred told. "They numb it up quite well. "

And this is what Norred recalls from surgery: lights, colours and lots of water. "Has just been flooded," he said. "I don't know what they did." Surgeries lasted about 15-20 minutes, and then spent 20 minutes of recovery, he said. She left twice already seen through the eye which had been operated.

"They don't put eye patch more," said Norred. "They give you wear glasses and have to wear an eye patch when sleeping [because] they don't want to glance".

Her vision was blurry for a few hours, but had begun to cancel before the end of the day, he said.

"Every day after that, it gets better and better," he said. "I was so amazed with the colours and brightness of this world. I didn't know I was badly off. Things only gradually worsened, and you don't realize that the view is Dim, to reach this wonderful gift.

His advice to others with cataract? Look forward surgery rather than be frightened by the prospect.

"They've done," he said. "There is no problem. It's just a gift to have this view back again. I know that it's scary to have someone messing with your eyes. This was my problem. But it works. "

Three-dimensional models that clearly illustrate the cervical, thoracic and lumbar column and regions in the way of life. This allows that surgeons to match precisely with the results of x-rays and other images to the real source of their pain. The symptoms of many spinal conditions closely mimic the symptoms of others. Compression and pressure on the nerves can be stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal cord, channel as well as anquilosante, inflammation of the vertebrae. Similar symptoms do not mean the same treatment. While stenosis may require a Laminectomy, removal of a part of the spinal canal, anquilosante can be cured with less aggressive measures.

Lordosis and kyphosis, curvature of the spine, also can affect the nerves and cause pain in the limbs. These conditions could better cure with keys to do surgery. Spondylosis, a degenerative spinal arthritis way would require yet another treatment. Spinabifida, a birth defect in which the vertebra not develop fully, however, need surgical means to correct.

A spine surgeon can use 3D surgery pre-plan models to avoid errors and spinal cord injury risk during surgery for the purpose of helping the precise zone and ailment of surgery performed. These models are the most recent advances in orthopaedic medicine. If you suffer from a spinal injury, insist your spinal surgeon has all the tools available to plan treatment.

Ron Pettichord has a heart condition in which he needs surgery to repair an enlarged aorta. The surgery is common and has a high survival rate, but there’s a danger of the aorta bursting at any time, like with an aneurysm. Get this patient a room, stat! Call George Clooney! Have you scrubbed up? With luck, we can have him in surgery by 6:15 tonight. My God, you haven’t scrubbed up yet? Nurse! I need … what? He wants to postpone? From the Portland Oregonian:

The Ducks kick off against Auburn in the BCS national championship on Jan 10, the same day as Ron’s open-heart surgery.

His daughter, Pam Pettichord Tishendorf, offered to record the game for him, so Ron responded the way most of us would: by postponing surgery.

“I’m not a die-hard Duck, believe it or not,” said Pettichord, 69. “I grew up remembering (Oregon State’s) Tommy Prothro and Joe Francis and the single-wing. I like both teams. Whoever’s winning, I like.”

Tickets in the Defibrillator Section? Right this way, sir.
