Ron Pettichord has a heart condition in which he needs surgery to repair an enlarged aorta. The surgery is common and has a high survival rate, but there’s a danger of the aorta bursting at any time, like with an aneurysm. Get this patient a room, stat! Call George Clooney! Have you scrubbed up? With luck, we can have him in surgery by 6:15 tonight. My God, you haven’t scrubbed up yet? Nurse! I need … what? He wants to postpone? From the Portland Oregonian:
The Ducks kick off against Auburn in the BCS national championship on Jan 10, the same day as Ron’s open-heart surgery.
His daughter, Pam Pettichord Tishendorf, offered to record the game for him, so Ron responded the way most of us would: by postponing surgery.
“I’m not a die-hard Duck, believe it or not,” said Pettichord, 69. “I grew up remembering (Oregon State’s) Tommy Prothro and Joe Francis and the single-wing. I like both teams. Whoever’s winning, I like.”
Tickets in the Defibrillator Section? Right this way, sir.
