What are the causes and treatments for low back pain?


Most people will suffer less in a certain period of time in his life, back pain especially when aging. Sometimes caused by injury, while others have no obvious reason lumbago.

What conditions of cause lower back pain?

There are several conditions main could lead to back pain. Most of the above conditions could cause compression. This pressure on the spinal nerves causes inflammation and pain. Pain may affect the back itself only or may radiate to the legs.

Non-surgical treatment of low back pain

Non-surgical treatment of low back pain involves pharmacological treatment, therapeutic spinal traction corset spine, acupuncture and traditional Chinese drug therapy, chiropractic care, injection epidural steroids, nerve blocks, and physical therapy.

There are many different types of medications used to treat back pain. Acute back pain is usually treated with opioids - narcotics. One of the problems with these drugs is that you can get possible side effects such as euphoria, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, constipation and respiratory depression. For chronic back pain, doctors usually prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) non-steroidal. Side effects of NSAIDs include increased risk of heart attack or stroke and gastrointestinal bleeding.

Therapeutic spinal traction, the corset spine and physical therapy uses manually or mechanically created forces to stretch tight spinal muscles resulting from spasm and expand the space between backbones to relieve nerve impingement and alleviate back pain.

Alternative medicines such as treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and chiropractic care have long history of successfully conservative support for back pain. Most professionals are in agreement that conservative care should be judged before surgery is considered.

Injection epidural steroids and nerve blocks help to relieve the inflammation and the pain nerves in the spinal cord caused by compression. This is especially useful for pain that radiates from the lower back leg and is caused by the herniated disc. However, it is dangerous and has side effect.

Surgical treatment of lower back pain

Surgery is only considered when non-surgical treatments have been tried. If you attempted various conservative treatment, you and your surgeon it will make the decision whether or not to undergo surgery is a great way to treat your condition. Talk with your surgeon and other doctors about the benefits and risks of surgery.
